Earning UAE international driver licence

Today is 1st May, International Workers’ Day (I thought it is observed in Korea only but in the world actually.)

I am not only happy that our site manager decided to have off-duty on the day, but that today is the only day I can apply for UAE international driver licence!

How come did I decide to issue UAE international driver licence?

Few weeks ago, my girlfriend suggested me to spend our time in Malaysia  or somewhere during our next vacation, so I had thought I strongly need any international driver licence to rent a car there, but I found that my international driver licence from Korea was already expired! (These days I was driving in UAE and Korea only, so UAE and Korea driver licence was enough for me.)

As I will travel to Malaysia or somewhere from UAE directly, I won’t have any time to prepare the licence in Korea. The korean embassy in UAE also couldn’t do that.

But my colleague advised me very simply. “Why don’t you issue UAE international driver licence, because you already have UAE driver licence?” I found every post office can issue the internatioanl driver licence, but I was frustrated because the post office closes every Friday (Friday and Saturday are weekend for the most middle east country), when I can go out from the site and visit the post office.

The last option was on 1st May(Tuesday) and luckily Ruwais post office near my site answered they are working on that day and can help me issue the international licence!

Moreover, My colleague, Sol decided to accompany me there, then enjoying fresh seafoods from the nearby market! It must be perfect.

That’s why I am so excited to be here, the bus station in front of my site, to take a public bus to Ruwais with him.

As usual, the scorching weather is killing me. Luckily there is a container inside where there is an A/C(air-conditioner). I also found lots of Filipino-like and Indian-like people waiting for the bus.

The bus will depart from here around 09:34am. The ticket fee is 5 AED only. It’s much cheaper than the other transportations like private van or public taxi which cost at least 60 AED (maybe it will be divided and cheaper if you share it with the other passengers) and the quality of the bus is satisfactory, at least there is A/C.

The bus transits Al Hamra, then ‘Al Ruwais Housing Complex Bus Station’. It took around one hour.

Done. it only takes 5 minutes, faster than I expected.

The licence looks like sharper than the one from Korea, though I don’t know why they used the black-white profile photo even though I submitted a color photo?(They even didn’t return me the color photo.) Hopefully it will help our future travel. 🙂

By the way, Sol looks like really hungry and rushes me to the seafood market for lunch. Shall we go now?? 😛
