이제 나도 Project Management Professional 다! 다음에는 미국 기술사(PE Chemical)을 목표로~
사실 처음에 1달 동안 Joseph Phillips 님의 강의를 통해 개념을 충분히 익혔다고 생각하고 시험을 봤으나 4시간 동안 말장난 같은 문제들을 쉬지 않고 상대하는 것은 진정한 고문이었다. 그래도 이정도면 최선을 다해 잘 찍었다고 생각했지만 전혀 예상치 못하게 떨어져버려 적잖은 멘붕이 왔었다. 너무 화가 나서 바로 다음주에 시험 일정을 한번 더 잡았고, 남은 휴가 기간 동안 어떻게든 합격을 해야만 내 자존심이 허락할 것 같았다. 그때 강정배 선생님을 만났고, 다행히 6판의 새로운 빈출문제에 대해 분석해놓은 강의가 있었기에 문제풀이에 좀 더 효율적으로 대비할 수 있었고, 1주 후 시험에서는 무난히 합격! 덕분에 여유롭게 보낼 수 있었던 내 휴가는 쉴 틈 없는 약속과 시험공부의 끊임없는 연속이었지만 결국 합격했다니 뿌듯하다.
PMP는 모든 일을 하는 사람에게 필요한 것 같다. 대부분 사람들이 하는 일이 조직에서 하는 프로젝트이며, 그 조직과 프로젝트의 생리에 대한 통찰력을 PMP에서 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 그렇지 않더라도 인적 관리에서 조직과 사람의 심리를 알아가는 것도 도움이 되는 것 같다. 최근 6판 개정부터는 Agile 과정도 추가되었기 때문에 전통적인 건설 프로젝트 뿐만이 아니라 특히 불확실한 IT 프로젝트에서도 많이 쓰일 것 같다. 짧은 시간 방대한 양의 Joseph Phillips 강의를 소화하기는 힘들었지만(더군다나 영어…) 중간마다 PMP Coach는 나에게 큰 위로가 되었다. Joseph Phillips 님의 말대로 PMP는 자격증 그 이상이며, 삶의 통찰에 있어 한걸음 더 나아가는 순간이라고 생각한다. 나도 이제 PMP가 되었으니, 다른 많은 이들에게 PMP를 추천해주고 많은 영감을 주고 싶다.

Actually I failed to pass the exam for the first time after taking Joseph Phillips PMP prep course for 1 month and studying the key concepts, and spending so painful time of 4 hours with kind of wordplay questions. I was sure to pass the exam because I solved ambiguous one so considerately but the unexpected fail was a shock for me. Luckily I meet Mr. Jeongbae Kang’s lecture, who suggests well the preparation of new questions from 6th edition of PMBOK, then I pass the second exam. Though my holiday was so hectic with meeting appointments and studying the exam again, it worth to achieve my goal.
PMP is a must for every working person. It’s because most people do projects within organizations, organisms and insights of which you can get from PMP. At least (human) resource management helps you to understand psychologies of organizatons and people. It is also useful for uncertain IT projects, not just traditional-style projects like construction projects because the Agile process has been added in the 6th PMBOK. It was so hard to digest extensive Joseph Phillips’s courses but short PMP coach advice throughout the courses helped me keep going forward. As Joseph Phillips said, PMP is not just a certificate but a further step to the insight of the life. As a PMP, I also hope to recommend the PMP to my friends, giving inspirations.
