갑작스런 2박 3일 연휴, 어디로 갈까? (UAE의 휴일이란)
9월 11일 or 12일로 예측되던 이슬람 신년이 오늘 13일로 결정되는 이례적인 일이 생겨서 얼떨결에 우리는 13~14일 이틀 연휴를 얻게 되었다!
UAE를 비롯한 대부분 이슬람이 국교인 국가에서는 이슬람력의 휴일을 기준으로 공휴일을 지정하고 있다. (그렇긴 하지만 추후 설명은 UAE에만 국한한 것이므로 다른 이슬람 국가에도 확대 해석하지 말긴 바란다.) 이슬람력은 소위 우리가 생각하는 음력이라고 생각하면 되는데, 문제는 공휴일이 시작하기 일주일 정도 전, 이놈의 달 모양을 매번 관찰해서 정확한 날짜를 결정한다는 것이다. (요즘 같이 천문학이 좋아진 시절에 굳이 이렇게 해야 할까 의문이 든다.)
그래서 당초 계획과 -1~+1일 정도 차이날 수 있기 때문에, 휴일 시즌이 되면 우리 현장에서는 휴일이 이날이냐 저날이냐를 따지며 열띤 토론을 펼치게 된다. 미리 항공권 예매 등 여행 계획을 짜야 하는 사람들은 날짜가 확정되기만을 기다리며 발을 동동 구르고 있거나, 어느 정도 감으로 미리 항공권을 예약해놓다가 예상한 날짜대로 되면 기뻐하고, 날짜가 틀어지면 울며 겨자먹기로 취소 혹은 변경을 해야 한다.
원래 올해 이슬람 신년은 9월 11일로 계획되어 있었으므로 11~12일 정도로 결정될 것으로 예상하고 있었는데 오늘 아침 갑자기 UAE 정부에서 13일(목)으로 결정하겠다는 폭탄 선언을 했다.(

Sudden consecutive holiday in UAE!
Al Hijri, Islamic New Year will fall on 13rd Sep, which is so unusual because it was expected to 11st or 12nd Sep. So we suddenly get 2-days holiday from 13rd to 14th!
The most of islamic countries, especially UAE announce public holiday schedule based on the one on the islamic calendar, which is basically lunar calendar without leap month. The problem is, the day of public holiday is always determined by exact shape of moon recently, around 1 week ago. (I still wonder if they need to confirm the moon shape even though we already have great technology of astronomy.)
So the day may shift -1~+1 day from the original plan. As the holiday period come, we are busy to argue which date is the exact date. Those who plan some travelling plan like booking flight tickets are deadly waiting for the announcement, or nervous after they made a booking already based on their own decision.
This year the islamic new year was supposed to be 11st Sep, but today morning UAE government announced 13th Sep, Thursday!(
Whenever the holiday is announced, I used to search flight tickets whether I travel or not, because people in UAE usually rush to do that. The round-trip ticket price to Oman has gone up from 170USD to 240USD, and the one to Jordan already cost 400USD. How about me?
